Grammy Award winner Kurt Elling, hails from Chicago, Illinois. He began performing around Chicago during the mid ’90s using the style of scat and improvisation as a beginning in Jazz technique. Growing up he sang in classic technique including the classics of Johann Sebastian Bach. Now considered a modern master in Jazz his improvised beats are smooth and a delight to listen to.
His current and catalogued works are on his website Kurt Elling. His latest album is titled Passion World, drawing on his experiences as he has toured the world. Bringing those experiences of humanity to an album enriched with his vocals.
Melbourne International Jazz Festival
Elling is appearing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) as part if the Jazz Festival. He is accompanied by his quartet and conducted by Benjamin Northey during the performance. The performances are Saturday 30 May at 7:00pm and a matinee time of 2:00pm on Sunday 31 May. Dress would be semi-formal for the evening event. Tickets are quickly selling online on the MSO site.
